Images of the OOPS Modules

The OOPS module was designed by the OOPS collaboration with support from Bruce Bailey. Bartoszek Engineering contributed to a redesigned dipole clamp, redesigned detector carriage, and the cast lead end cap with lead doors.

The images that follow begin with views of the outside of a single OOPS spectrometer, and continue with views that change the transparency of various parts of the spectrometer to highlight individual subsystems.

Front iso view of the OOPS module, 32K

This is a rendered view of the outside of the OOPS module from the upstream end. The cyan rectangular solid in the foreground is a dipole magnet from Fermilab. The red solid in the middle of the module is a Brookhaven quadrapole magnet. Radiation from the target enters the opening in the dipole magnet and is directed into the detector package.

Back iso view of the OOPS module, 45K

This is a rendered view of the outside of the OOPS module from the downstream end. Radiation from the target is measured in the detector package inside the blue steel octagonal structure surrounded by lead rendered in green. Bartoszek Engineering designed the endcap with the lead doors. Door operating mechanism is not shown.

Transparent OOPS showing the vaccuum system, 80K

This image of an OOPS module makes everything except the vaccum pipes internal to the OOPS transparent so you can see how the radiation gets to the detector package in the cavity at the large end of the OOPS.

Transparent OOPS showing the magnets, 77K

This image of an OOPS module makes everything except the dipole and quadrapole magnets transparent. The magnets direct the radiation into the OOPS and spread the charged radiation particles over the detectors.

Transparent OOPS showing the lead shielding, 78K

This image of an OOPS module makes everything except the internal lead shielding blocks transparent. The external lead was made transparent to see into the detector space. (It is rendered in green in the above outside views.) The internal lead collimates the incoming radiation, and the external lead prevents unwanted background radiation from getting into the detector package.
