Photogrammetry measurement of the Inner Conductor, 5/2/01

We used the V-Stars system to measure the location of the inner conductor inside the outer conductor, as a check on the runout measurements that we made while the inner conductor was on the welding machine. Photogrammetry is the process of instrumenting an object with retroreflector targets and taking numerous photos of the object with its targets from many angles. Software can reconstruct the 3D coordinates of the targets from the 2D photos. When I get the data I will post the results here.

The first picture shows the target stalks and holders that fasten the stalks to the water and spider ports on the outer conductor. The stalks are exactly 16.000 inches long and touch the inner conductor. The block shapes are the retroreflectors with the shiny dots that the camera records. The other pictures show how the whole outer conductor was covered with tape on targets. These allow the cylinder of the OC to be reconstructed.

Taking the photos. Many angles were shot, and the stalks were moved to different ports to make more measurements of the IC in Z.
