The First Booster Collimator (almost) Finished, 8/20/03

Oh, what a week it's been!

We had a few bumps on the road this week, but finally we have the first of the three collimators with all of its shielding on, the vacuum liner is in, and ALL THE MOTORS WORK IN BOTH DIRECTIONS!!!

Peter is finally a happy camper!

Peter looks much happier here than he has most of this week. The vertical drive gave us a real headache because there was more friction in the drive train than I expected. The net result was that the vertical drive could go down, but not up until today. We had to give the system more gear reduction, but it seems to be breaking in nicely now with no more stalling.
(If you'd like to see Peter with some other looks, try here. Password protected by MiniBooNE, sorry!)

Close-up of limit switches, etc.

Just a quick visual of the drive systems for those of you who haven't been spending every waking minute in the Booster Access Hatch area.

The control rack

This rack can power all four motors. It has been incredibly handy during testing and will probably be used during installation in the beam line.
